“Fresh, clear and as beautiful as a silver stream coming down from the hills” BBC RADIO 3 LATE JUNCTION

A musical marriage made in heaven, the voice of Julie Murphy and flute of Ceri Rhys Matthews ( founding members of fernhill ) with the harp of Ceri Owen Jones and fiddle of Elsa Davies ( Deuair ). They are friends and neighbours who live on either side of the river teifi and working with the inherited music of their environs and the intertwined textures of their instruments, they explore the musical possibilities of native melody. Together they create something really exquisite  The tunes themselves range from plangent airs to joyful jigs,  rom ancient to modern, spiced throughout with beautiful songs. The treatment is grounded in playing in heterophony; susurrating melodies with an emphasis on articulation of the tunes through the interplay of the individual voices and particular qualities of each distinct instrument.

Cymdogion a chyfeillion yw’r pedwarawd carreg bica, sy’n byw dim nepell o’i gilydd naill ochr i’r teifi.

Maent yn canolbwyntio ar etifeddiaeth cerddorol eu ardal, a thrwy gwead cyd-leisiol cyffyrddiad arbennig eu hofferynnau, yn ymdrin a’r holl bosibiliadau bydd y melodi yn cynnig arnynt. Y mae’r triniaeth yn seiliedig ar gyd-chwarae’r ceinciau mewn heterophony, a sisialu’r alawon, gyda phwyslais ar addurno’r ceinciau mewn ffordd cynhenid i’w hofferynnau, sy’n gwrthgyferbynnu a’r tueddiad diweddar o bwyslais ar harmoni a threfniannau. Y mae’r alawon eu hun yn amrywio o’r dwys i’r sionc, ac o’r hen i’r newydd. y mae carreg bica hefyd yn cynnig ambell i gân.
