A Night of Poetry and Cello

Thursday 25th October

We’re excited to confirm that our Poetry and Musical evenings are making a return this Autumn.

The first of these events will take place on Thursday 25th October. We’ll be hosting a Poetry + Cello evening with leading local poets, Paul Steffan Jones & Kathy Miles, reading their work in our inside bar area and acclaimed Cellist, Daniel Davies, playing some pieces throughout the course of the evening.

Daniel Davies is a versatile freelance cellist based in Wales. He studied at both the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.  Daniel maintains a busy teaching practice in West Wales and also enjoys a variety of playing opportunities; solo recitals, concerto performances, improvisation and composition projects and chamber music.  He is also interested in cross art collaboration and works closely with writers, poets, story tellers and dancers.

Kathy Miles has published three collections of poetry: The Rocking Stone (Poetry Wales Press), The Shadow House (Cinnamon Press, 2009) and Gardening With Deer (Cinnamon Press, 2016) as well as an edited anthology of poetry and photographs. Her work has been widely anthologised, and published in magazines such as Acumen, Orbis, The Interpreter’s House, Poetry Wales, Planet, Zoomorphic Magazine, ARTEMISpoetry, and The Lonely Crowd. She is a previous winner of the Bridport Prize (2015), the PENfro (2016) and Welsh Poetry Competitions.

Paul Steffan Jones is a bilingual poet and song writer.  He has two poetry collections published by Starborn Books, Lull of The Bull and The Trigger-Happiness.  He was Winner of 2012 West Coast Eisteddfod Online Poetry Competition.  A former Civil Servant and Trade Union activist, Paul was born in Cardigan.  Described by Poetry Wales magazine as “civilian war poetry”.

It will be a small event due to the capacity of our inside space. Due to limited seating, will have to cap numbers, so we will be asking people to book tickets in advance. A ticket is £5 per person.

If it sounds like something you might want to come along to please phone and book now to guarantee a place. And if you have a favourite poem or your own poetry/prose you’d like to read, bring it along!
